WUSA Lightning Safety Policy

Bad weather conditions, especially those that contain lightning, pose a potential deadly problem for outdoor activities. As such WUSA is mandating the following lightning policy. This policy is to be followed for all WUSA activities, including but not limited to practice sessions, scrimmages, and games. This policy is to be enforced by WUSA officials, coaches and umpires without exception.

If lightning occurs within 10 miles of the playing field, all softball activity must be stopped immediately, fields must be cleared and all participants should be advised to find a safe place (such as a car or building) to wait. IMPORTANT: Never wait inside the field dugouts. Softball activity shall not resume for a minimum of 30 minutes following the later of either 1) the initial suspension or 2) any subsequent lightning strike within 10 miles of the playing field.
