Welcome to the West University Softball Association. WUSA offers recreational softball teams for girls ages 5-18 and competitive summer tournament teams for girls ages 7-18. WUSA is one of the largest fastpitch softball associations in the United States with over 1,000 players on over 98 teams. WUSA is a neighborhood organization, created and operated to support and promote girls softball. Recreational leagues are available in both the fall and the spring, with tournament teams available in the fall and summer. In addition to softball games and practices, WUSA offers fun off-field activities for its families including the annual Opening Day Parade and Carnival, the Father-Daughter Dance and the Adult Social and Auction.  WUSA has a proud heritage of building lifelong friendships and making family memories.

WUSA MISSION STATEMENT

West University Softball Association is a recreational league committed to support girls softball by building athletic skills, life skills, self-esteem, and long-lasting friendships for our players in a safe environment with premier facilities.  Our priorities are safety, fun, skill development and competitiveness in that order. WUSA actively promotes teamwork and sportsmanship among our coaches and players by reinforcing the fundamentals of positive coaching from our adult volunteers.

APPROACH TO COMPETITION

WUSA regular season play is a Recreational League format that strives to strike an appropriate balance between competition and participation. In all divisions except for 6U, scores are kept, win-loss records are used to determine standings and trophies are awarded for placement. Players are exposed to the concepts of playing to win, learning how to lose, and the role of a team player in a competitive framework. The league has participation requirements which stipulate that all players play at least one inning in the infield per game and, in the older divisions, that each team use more than one pitcher per game.  WUSA tournament teams play in very competitive environments with a focus on winning.  These tournament teams routinely place highly in local, state, and national tournaments. Across all of our teams, we try to ensure fun and player development.

VOLUNTEERING AND FUNDRAISING

WUSA is composed entirely of volunteers, with the exception of our umpires who are certified, paid professionals. We need help from all of our families to keep the league running effectively. There are many different volunteer opportunities including coaching, field setup, scorekeeping, fundraising, and assisting with our many league events. In addition, teams that play at WUSA's South Campus fields are required to volunteer in the concessions stand, most likely two times during the season. We encourage and expect that every WUSA family will contribute their time and effort in some fashion to support the league. As a youth sports program in an urban area with high real estate values, our field operations costs are high. Unlike suburban leagues, we have no county park facilities available and all of our fields are either partially or fully owned, controlled and/or operated by our league (in partnership with other youth sports programs). Registration fees cover only a portion of our operating costs. Fundraising is critical to the continued viability of WUSA. Parents are encouraged to participate in league fundraising activities, through either direct donations or in-kind activities such as our Opening Day Carnival, Hit-a-thon, Father-Daughter Dance, Adult Social and Auction and more.
