Divisions of Play - Recreational Seasons

Starting Fall 2024, WUSA’s “Softball Age” cutoff date for recreational play is September 1st. WUSA will continue to allow players to play one recreational division lower with approval by the registrar based on a player’s skill-level and safety. 

As WUSA phases-in the date cutoff change, players born between 9/1/2018 – 12/31/2018 (and each age year earlier e.g. 9/1/2017 – 12/31/2017, etc) may play one division higher than their defaulted age division if desired.  Refer to the table below as a reference guide.

DIVISION FORMAT
6UIn this division, players hit from a batting tee using an 11-inch safety ball (DX1).
7UIn this division, a coach will pitch to the players from a distance of approximately 27 feet using an 11-inch safety ball (DX5).
8UIn this division, a coach will pitch to the players from a distance of approximately 27 feet using an 11-inch safety ball (DX5).
9UThis division will include a combination of girl pitch for one inning and machine pitch for the remaining innings, both from a distance of 35 feet using an 11-inch standard ball
10UThis division will include a combination of girl pitch for two innings and machine pitch for the remaining innings, both from a distance of 35 feet using an 11-inch standard ball.
11UThis division is exclusively girl pitch at 40 feet from the pitching plate to home plate; there is no machine pitch component. 12-inch standard ball.
12UThis division is exclusively girl pitch at 40 feet from the pitching plate to home plate; there is no machine pitch component. 12-inch standard ball.
14UThis division is exclusively girl pitch using 12-inch ball and 43 feet from pitching plate to home plate.
